Little Luxuries for Everyone at the Columbus Circle Holiday Market

December 6, 2016

The holidays in New York City are magical, but living at The Nicole apartments, just blocks from the winter wonderland that Central Park becomes every year, means having the best of urban lights, sights, and shops in your home neighborhood. There is no place in the city, or perhaps anywhere, that better encapsulates the combination of beauty and excitement of the holidays than the Columbus Circle Holiday Market, now in its thirteenth year, which sets up its own little village of arts, crafts, and delicacies, right at the southwest entrance of the park.

Shopping at the Holiday Market is as fun as it is practical. This is a place filled with all the perfect artisanal items that will delight everyone on your gift list, from expertly crafted wallets; sturdy, elegant backpacks; and smartphone cases at United Leather, to soy-based candles from 5th and Madison, as well as everything in between. You will have to return again and again to fully experience it, and The Nicole Columbus Circle situates you close enough to do just that. You can cross every name off your list as you browse under the red and white awnings festooned with lights.

Natural Olive Wood has a beautiful supply of cutting boards, spoons, and mortars and pestles. For the children in your life, stop by Kubiya Games for handmade puzzles and brainteasers that will give a child the chance to experience the physical feel of well-crafted toys inspired by a time when sleighs were pulled by horses like the ones you will see trotting through Central Park. At Saskia de Vries Designs, you can find beautiful pieces like the Picasso Lago Necklace, made from Picasso jasper imported from China. No stylish woman will want to face the winter without a warm, beautiful scarf, and Susan Bellero of Bellero Design is making a new Blanket Scarf for this season, an item as soft and cozy as it is lovely.

But there’s no need to focus all your attention on others, especially not when there are so many warming treats to enjoy as you shop: buy yourself a hot chocolate from No Chewing Allowed, a French chocolate purveyor, to fuel your afternoon, and partner it with a delicious Belgian waffle from Wafels and Dinges. While you’re there, choose a box or two of truffles (made from an old and trusted recipe) for your friends or family with a gourmand’s sweet tooth. Like so many of the unique items at the Holiday Market, you might just want to take some truffles back to your no-fee rental apartment at The Nicole, right in the center of the holiday atmosphere, so that you can truly appreciate them after a fine day of shopping.
